“Taiyu” — Live artwork by Smoking goats, painted during Art & Bass (27 April 2024) as a guest visual artist, an event presented by 3Lefts NZ.

Smoking goats is an Auckland-based artist whose work merges history, culture, and religion with the absurd to create something new. Influenced by global philosophies and classical etchers such as Doré and Piranesi, he combines precision and spontaneity in his detailed linework.

Even with the music, people, and movement around him, Smoking goats stayed fully focused — and you can see that in the fine lines and layered detail of this piece. It feels like the energy of the space helped sharpen his focus.

There is a subtle softness in the character’s expression — a gentle contrast resting quietly beneath the technical detail. It’s a piece shaped not only by time, but by presence, sound, and steady concentration throughout the night.

This artwork also includes the artist’s original draft sketch — a rare and exclusive look into the beginnings of this particular piece.

Every purchase supports the artist — and helps us continue creating future Art & Bass events and community creative projects. Thank you for supporting local.
